John C. Fehr Dead - Well Known Swiss Citizen Passes
Away Aged 70 years.  John C. Fehr an old and well
known citizen of Nashville, died of paralysis
yesterday afternoon at his home on North Summer
Street.  Mr. Fehr suffered a stroke of paralysis about
eight weeks ago from which he never recovered.  He was
born in Switzerland and came to Nashville in 1848 and
engaged in the book binding business until the war.
After the war he entered the grocery business from
which he was forced to retire about two years ago on
account of old age and feeble health.  His wife died
about 11 years ago.  Four children survive him.

  2. I have a relative, Augustus Eckhardt that also managed a grocery store in Nashville. His son married the daughter of John C. Fehr (Betty). Two Nashville grocery stores, or one store that both worked at? I'm unsure. I've tracked one Fehr Brothers grocery at 278 Spruce Street and a JC Fehr Grocery at 19 Deadrick, both in Nashville.

It's been our family history that John Fehr's daughter, Betti Fehr Eckhardt, went mentally insane after the birth of their third child. She spent the final months of her life in a mental hospital, but I have no proof of this; it's just what's been passed down for generations.

Share your email with me and I'll send you some of what I think are Fehr Family related photos.
