In the name of God Amen I Charles Wright Senr being Weak in body but of Sound & Perfect
mind and Memory, or you may say this, Considering the uncertainty of this
Mortal life and being of Sound and
______ be God Almighty for the Same do make Publish this my
Last Will and Testament and Revoking all other former Wills made by me in
manner and form as follows that is to say
First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Polly Wright two beds
& furniture all of the Earthen Ware knives and forks wheel and Cards and
one large ______ Trunk The Iron Pots to be Equally Divided between my beloved
wife & James Hollis Hager Wright the Iron Pots at her Death is to go to James
Hollis Hager Wright for his use. I give
and Bequeath unto my beloved wife by bay mare Cates her and her increase during
her Natural life and lastly at her death the mare is to Return to James Hollis
Hager Wright for his use heirs and assigns forever And lastly I give and
bequeath unto my beloved wife Polly Wright the East End of my Plantation where
I now live the Old Improved Part and lastly at her death the land above named
is to go to James Hollis Hager Wright for his use heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath to James Hollis Hager
Wright the west end of my plantation Beginning at the old improved part for his
use heirs and assigns forever. I give
and bequeath unto my beloved wife Polly Wright one hundred dollars in silver
for her use during her life and at her death the money is to go to James Hollis
Hager Wright for his use forever and lastly at my death the money that is found
among my estate and the proceeds of one hundred five dollars due me from Cap
Welsher Bandy to be applied to paying all my just debts and overplus is to be
equally divided between my beloved wife Polly Wright and James Hollis Hager
Wright but if James Hollis Hager Wright dies without a lawful heir of his body
the whole of the estate is to return to the lawful heirs of my body and lastly
I give and bequeath to all my children

that the following defendants in the above cause are no residents of the state
to wit: Elizabeth Hurt, Henry Hurt,
Elizabeth Wright, William O’Brient, Nancy McGhee, George O’Brient, Agnes Peck,
John Peck, Elizabeth Elliott, Andrew Elliott and Lucy O’Brient and that the

Bill of complaint of Lucy O'Briant of Davidson Co. TN
against her husband William O'Briant.
She intermarried with defendant about 26 or 27 years
ago. That in a short time after marriage
the conduct of the defendant became violent and abusive towards her, that he
has continued ever since to treat her with brutal severity and cruelty. That he has frequently forced her and her
children from their home to save her life and theirs. He has frequently threatened to murder her.
Complainant states that she is entitled to about $500, her
distributive share of the estate of her father Charles Wright decd. and now in
the hands of his executor James Wright. Sept 13 1847 Security for complainant William H.
Wright. Witnesses in the case: Samuel
Butler, John H. Cook, Robert Starkie, Permelia Starkie, Benjamin Hurt, Eleazor
Hamilton
Robert Starkie tell of events of October 1848 when he saw
defendant William O'Briant attack complainant and beat her with his fist, bear
her with a piece of wood, kick her and chase her with an axe. I am Mrs. O'Briant's son in law. Also a deposition of Permelia Starkie wife of
Robert Starkie and daughter of Mrs. O'Briant.
Benjamin Hurt stated he had known complainant since she was
10 years old.

Final Decree in the bill of complaint of Lucy O'Briant of
Davidson Co. TN against her husband William O'Briant. ...it appearing to the satisfaction of the
court that the said William O'Briant has been guilty of such conduct and such
cruel and inhuman treatment towards complainant Lucy O'Briant, as render it
unsafe and improper for her to cohabit with him, or to be under his dominion
and control: It is therefore ordered,
abridged, and decreed by the court that the bonds of matrimony heretofore
existing between the said William O'Briant and the said Lucy O'Brient, be and
the same are hereby dissolved, annuled and for nothing held, and she the said
Lucy O'Briant is hereby invested with all the rights, immunities and
responsibilities of a feme sole. ... and
the balance pay to the said Lucy O'Briant for alimony. ... that the said Lucy O'Briant retain all
the household & kitchen furniture now in her possession for her own
property.
